Increasing representation at every level
Key to representation at every level is sponsorship. We are partnering with leaders across the org through our diversity task forces to hold ourselves accountable in building a diverse leadership pipeline and to promote opportunities equitably across the organization.
Using a diverse slate approach to our interview process
This approach ensures that hiring managers consider underrepresented talent when interviewing for open positions.
Turning away business from offensive clients
We recognize the need to address offensive clients and prospective clients who use racially-charged or other abusive language in their communication with our employees. We do not want their business, and will not tolerate hate speech directed at our employees.
Continuing the conversation
There’s always more work to do. We designed a company-wide training curriculum on systemic racism and institutional bias, allyship, and more. The goal of this program is to create fluency around diversity, inclusion, and belonging topics to make sure we’re supporting our employees in the most proactive way.

Yelp Employee Resource Groups (YERGs)
We cultivate our diverse interests through Yelp Employee Resource Groups (YERGs). All employees are welcome to all groups! YERGs are voluntary, employee-led communities that serve as a resource for employees with shared social identities, characteristics or life experiences (for example, protected classes such as race, sex, disability, etc.), as well as their allies.
Awesome Women in EngineeringAWE's mission is to build a strong community for women in engineering, related teams, and their allies at Yelp by facilitating professional career building activities, networking, leadership, and mentorship opportunities.
VetConnect This is a Yelp Employee Resource Group for prior/current military, as well as family members and allies.
BlackBurstBlackBurst facilitates an authentic space for conversation, support, and shared learning and development for the Black community and its allies.

At Yelp, as we transition to a remote-first, distributed workforce, the intentionality behind inclusion poses new opportunities to pull additional levers to improve access and equity. We are proud of our growth but understand there is more work ahead.
Native American grouping includes Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islanders (per U.S. EEO-1 reporting requirements). Underrepresented Minority (URM) grouping includes Black, Latinx, and Native American employees. Yelp’s URM definition is the UCSF definition at the granularity of race and ethnicity data available to us. All figures reflect Yelp diversity from September 8, 2020 through August 31, 2021.

From our national celebration titles (Latinx Heritage Month) to how we address colleagues in our virtual meetings (y’all, folks, everybody, etc.), the language we use is crucial in defining an inclusive environment at Yelp. We continue to explore new vocabulary, have necessary conversations, and push the envelope on what’s considered the norm.
